New car registrations rose by 17% in H1 2023, with June seeing an increase of 18%. Since January, Tesla was the best-selling BEV brand. Chinese OEMs struggled to keep pace with Western manufacturers

According to JATO Dynamics data for 28 European markets, new vehicle registrations totalled 1,116,472 in May – an 18% increase on the 943,435 in the same month last year. This takes the year-to-date total to 5.3 million units, up by 17%. Felipe Munoz, Global Analyst at JATO Dynamics, commented:  “While BEVs and SUVs continue to drive the recovery of the industry, growth across all segments has not been enough to bring total volume back to pre-pandemic levels.”

Last month, European new passenger cars registrations totalled 960,191 units – an increase of 16% marking a ninth consecutive month of growth. On top of this, demand has continued to rise in response to the push from OEMs to widen their EV offering.”
